Swords are the suit of the mind. They describe how you think, what you say, and the conflicts that follow when thinking and truth pull apart. The Ace is a clear idea; the pips move through stalemate, heartbreak, rest, hollow wins, passage, strategy, entrapment, anxiety, and the end of a story; the courts are people who lead with the mind.

Swords have a reputation for being hard cards. They are more honest than hard. In a reading they tend to ask what you know but have not said, or what you keep telling yourself that is no longer true. Upright, the suit favors plain speech. Reversed, it points to thinking that has gone in circles or gone quiet.
