Power Tarot
The card library

A reversed card is a question, not automatic bad news.

A card is reversed when it appears upside down relative to the reader. There is no single compulsory method for interpreting it. You can work with reversals or read every card upright. What helps is choosing a consistent approach before the draw.

Four lenses to try

These are interpretive options, not four additional predictions. Begin with the upright theme and ask which lens fits the question and position without forcing a story.

Blocked or delayed
The theme is relevant, but something makes it difficult to express. What obstacle can you name in ordinary terms?
Inward or private
The theme may describe an internal process rather than a visible event. What are you feeling or practicing but not yet expressing?
Too much or too little
A useful quality may be out of proportion. Persistence can become rigidity. Generosity can become overextension.
A pattern changing
The reversal may invite you to examine release, repair or recovery. Look for actual signs of change rather than assuming the difficulty is already over.

Example: Two of Pentacles reversed

Imagine asking about combining work and study. Upright, the card’s balancing theme could point toward flexible routines. Reversed, “too much” might fit a schedule with no spare hours. “Blocked” might fit a timetable you cannot control. Neither interpretation proves that you will fail. Check your calendar, choose the explanation that matches the facts, and reduce one avoidable demand.

Let the position do some of the work

In a challenge position, a reversal may describe a difficulty to notice. In an advice position, the same card may suggest adjusting your response. Do not add a second layer of doom simply because both the position and orientation sound challenging.

If you do not use reversals

Read the card upright and let the question, position and surrounding cards supply nuance. Upright meanings can still include tension and limitations. In Power Tarot’s own-deck entry, select the orientation you want interpreted. Review it before starting the reading.

If a reading makes you anxious, take a break. Assess threats, health concerns and other people’s intentions through real-world evidence and appropriate support.
